Works really quick and simple
Tested several toys, swab stayed orange. So did the puddle of stuff from the swab. Then I wiped it off with a paper towel, and the towel turned purple! I tried again with another swab, and same result! I wiped the solution off the toys with a cloth rag, and it turned pink, though this rag has been washed many times. I'm confused. Do the toys have lead, or does my paper towel and rag?
Loved this size and value for your money. The quality is amazing. The efficiency and readability was perfect
Very practical and easy to use. It detects lead accurately. Our body is 70% water, definitely the output is priceless, our health and our family health is priceless. Highly recommended.
Tested it on paint I suspected was lead base and it indicated that it was by changing to a red color
These were a good value and allowed me to test various ceramic and old dishware for lead. I had vintage dishes I was nervous to use prior to testing. Some items had lead while others didn’t, so now I can make an informed decision on what to keep.
This AAwipes Lead Test Kid is so easy to use and works great! You really do just dip the swab in some water and then apply for 30 seconds to the item you are testing. If there are any hints of a pinkish color, then it is detecting lead. To test its efficacy, I wiped clean an item (to remove any dust) that I knew had lead paint before swabbing it, and it turned a dark pink immediately which indicated that lead was present in the paint. I then used the swabs specifically to test the exterior …and interior paints of an older home; and, I was put at ease when no lead was detected. Please note, though, that if any paint in older homes starts to chip or flake, you should test again because lead paint could be underneath the top coat of paint. There are a myriad of items that can be tested with these swabs, like dishes, toys, and window blinds. I remember back in the 1990s I was shocked when I tested (with a similar type swab) some newer mini-blinds in our home and it indicated lead was present in the mini-blinds! I got rid of them immediately. One more note of interest: These testing swabs have a 2 year expiration date.
I can't actually tell if it works or not. I've tried it on several different things (paint, metal, ect) and it all showed negative for lead. If they work then I guess i'm good for what I wanted to know.
I ran some negative controls after getting a positive on some areas with drywall dust. Unless IKEA is sending me mailers made entirely of lead, these give off all kinds of false positives. Don’t trust.
Naturally, I got spooked on TikTok when everyone said there is lead in most mainstream tampon brands. So I purchased a lead testing kit and natural cotton tampons to confirm they are safe and lead free. I tested something in my house to confirm the kit accurately detects lead and it was able to detect lead in another item in my house (vintage Polaroid camera on the inside where the film is placed). So if you are worried about lead in anything, these work! Thankfully the tampons were lead free, …yay!
